3 Minute Gratitude Idea For When You Wake

Feeling gratitude when you first wake up can be hard to do until you train yourself to do it.

Your alarm goes off, the kids are screaming, you are going to be late for work and all you can think about is coffee …

However, allowing yourself a minute or two to do the following gratitude exercise in the morning, before you even move a muscle, can have a tremendous effect on your mood and frame of mind. It will make sure that you don’t get out on the wrong side of bed and start your day in a happy way.

This is what you need to do for this morning gratitude practice:

Step 1:

Close your eyes and breathe fully and deeply three times.

Step 2:

Place your hands together in a prayer position (or whatever feels comfortable for you).

Step 3:

Say “Thank You” three times. You don’t have to say thank you for anything in particular, just say these words to begin to elevate your thinking pattern.

Step 4:

Repeat the phrase “I am grateful for each new day because …”.

Think of reasons that you are grateful for this new day. Try to think of three things to be grateful for to begin and then as this gratitude habit becomes easier (it won’t take long), try and come up with five or ten reasons to be grateful.

Examples may be:

” I am grateful for each new day because each new day brings me the opportunity to spend time with my wonderful family”

” I am grateful for each new day because each new day brings me the opportunity to see the sun rise” (If you have to get up early of course!)

” I am grateful for each new day because each new day brings me the opportunity to do something kind for someone else”

” I am grateful for each new day because each new day brings me the opportunity to earn the money to pay for the things I need and love”

Can you think of any more?
